The Winegard Trav'ler antenna may encounter two primary power-related issues: the system may fail to power on entirely, or it may power on briefly and then shut off. The troubleshooting steps for each scenario are outlined below.
System Won't Power On
Check Power Connections and Source:
- Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the interface box and the power brick.
- Confirm the power cord is plugged into a working wall outlet. Try a different outlet if necessary.
Test Voltage (If Necessary):
- Voltage Test Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYujLFp-nXo
- If the system still doesn't power on, use a voltmeter to check if the power cable is delivering the required 48VDC to the interface box. Refer to the provided video for guidance on voltage testing.
- If the correct voltage is present, the interface box needs replacement.
- If the voltage is incorrect, the power cord needs replacement.
System Powers On and Then Shuts Off
Check for a Short:
- Unplug the power cord from the interface box, disconnect the 6-wire data cable from its back.
- Reconnect the power cord and power on the interface box.
- If it powers on and displays a "No ANT Comm" message, the short is in the turret, requiring replacement.
- If the interface box still powers on briefly and then shuts off, a voltage test will need to be done to ensure a stable 48VDC power is reaching the interface box. See our video on testing voltage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYujLFp-nXo
- If the voltage is fluctuating wildly then the power cord needs replaced. Voltage fluctuations of a +/- 3 is normal. If the voltage is stable, the interface box will need replaced.
Warranty and Replacement:
- If your system is under two years old or the short is in the turret, contact Winegard support for warranty assistance.
- If your system is older than two years and the issue is the interface box or power cord, you can purchase a replacement from the Winegard website.
Important Note: If you are uncomfortable performing these steps, seek assistance from a qualified technician or RV dealer. Always prioritize safety when working on your Trav'ler antenna, especially when accessing the roof of your vehicle.
