Troubleshoot: Winegard DirecTV Trav'ler Not Locking Onto Signal

The "Antenna Not Locking Onto Signal" issue on a Winegard DirecTV Trav'ler can be frustrating, but there are troubleshooting steps you can take to address the issue. The first step is to check if the interface box shows any indication of "peaking" or "identifying" during the search process.

If the interface box does NOT indicate peaking or identifying:

  1. The most likely cause is a problem with the cable connecting the LNB to the vertical C port on the turret.
  2. Power off the interface box while the antenna is searching by holding the power and select buttons simultaneously. This will keep the antenna in the up position.
  3. Access the roof with the necessary tools: Phillips screwdriver, 7/16" wrench, 5/16" wrench, 3/8" wrench, and 11/32" wrench, along with a standard RG6 coax cable (approximately 5 feet long).
  4. Remove the LNB:
    • Loosen the screws on the LNB guard using the 3/8" wrench.
    • Remove the screws and nuts securing the LNB to the arm using the Phillips screwdriver and 11/32" wrench.
    • Slide the LNB out of the arm, adjusting the LNB guard as needed.
    • Disconnect the cable from the LNB using the 7/16" wrench.
  5. Remove the existing cable:
    • Use the 5/16" wrench to remove the P-Clip securing the cable to the elevation arm.
    • Disconnect the coax cable from the vertical C port on the turret using the 7/16" wrench.
    • Remove the cable from the arm.
  6. Install the new RG6 coax cable, connecting the LNB to the vertical C port on the turret.
  7. Reinstall the LNB and tighten the LNB guard.
  8. Power on the system and check if the antenna locks onto the signal.

If the antenna STILL does not lock onto the signal:
