The Winegard Carryout antenna is designed to provide reliable satellite TV reception on the go. However, if you're experiencing a "No Signal Lock" issue, where the antenna fails to lock onto a satellite signal, follow these troubleshooting steps:
1. Antenna Placement and Line of Sight:
- Optimal Placement: The antenna's placement is crucial for obtaining a signal lock. Ensure it has a clear, unobstructed view of the southern sky (between southern Texas and southern California), where DISH and DirecTV satellites are located.
- Signal Blockage: Trees, buildings, power lines, or other tall objects can interfere with the antenna's ability to find and lock onto a signal. The general rule is to be twice as far away from an object as it is tall to overcome signal blockage.
- Winegard RV Halo App: If unsure about potential obstructions, use the Winegard RV Halo app for iOS and Android devices. The app includes a signal finder utility that utilizes your phone's camera to provide a real-time view of satellite positions, helping you identify blockages and find the best antenna placement.
2. Coax Cable and Connections:
- Troubleshooting Setup: For troubleshooting, use the factory-provided 25' coax cable and connect it directly from the antenna to the ANT port on the power inserter, bypassing any coach wiring. If you need a longer cable for optimal placement, use a maximum of 50' of Quad Shield RG6 coax for the Carryout G2+ or 50' Solid Copper Core RG6 coax for the Carryout G3.
- Receiver Connection and Dip Switches: Connect your receiver to the RCVR port on the power inserter. Set the dip switches according to your satellite provider's instructions (refer to the product manual for the dip switch diagram).
3. Power On and Signal Search:
- Search Routine: Power on the system and allow the antenna to search for a signal. A typical search takes 3-7 minutes. Monitor the signal strength through your receiver.
- Successful Signal Lock: If the antenna locks onto a signal and displays it on the receiver, proceed with the receiver setup process as outlined in its manual.
- No Signal Lock: If the antenna searches for over 10 minutes without finding a signal, reposition it and try again. If it searches for 3-7 minutes and signal is still not displayed on the receiver, proceed to the next step.
4. Secondary Port Check:
- Disconnect Receiver: Disconnect the receiver from the power inserter.
- Connect to Secondary Port: Using another coax cable, connect the receiver directly to the secondary port on the antenna.
- Check for Signal: If the receiver displays a signal when connected to the secondary port but not the power inserter, try replacing the coax cables between the antenna and power inserter, and power inserter and receiver. If the issue persists, submit a Support Ticket for further assistance.
- No Signal on Secondary Port: If no signal is received on the secondary port, there might be an issue with the receiver itself. Try a different receiver if possible. If the problem continues, submit a Support Ticket for further assistance.
