Troubleshooting Winegard Carryout Antenna: Power Inserter Lights

The power inserter in your Winegard Carryout antenna system features four LED lights that provide valuable diagnostic information. If you're experiencing issues with your antenna, understanding these lights can help you identify and troubleshoot the problem.

Light Functions and Troubleshooting

  • PWR Light:

    • Function: Indicates that the power inserter powered on.
    • Troubleshooting: If this light is off, check to make sure the power button is de-pressed, and the VIN light is lit.
  • VIN Light:

    • Function: Confirms that the power inserter is receiving the correct 24V input voltage.
    • Troubleshooting: If this light is off, check the power connections and the power adapter to ensure it is providing the required 24V output.
  • RCVR Light:

    • Function: Shows that the receiver is connected to the power inserter, and outputting its 13-18v power on the coax.
    • Troubleshooting: If this light is off, check the coax cable connection between the receiver and the power inserter. Ensure the receiver is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • ANT Light:

    • Function: Indicates that the antenna is connected and communicating with the power inserter.
    • Troubleshooting: If this light is off, check the coax cable connection between the antenna and the power inserter. If the connection is good, there might be an issue with the antenna itself.

Additional Troubleshooting Tips

  • It is important to test for appropriate power to ensure all lights are functioning properly. See our video on performing voltage tests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYujLFp-nXo
  • There are 4 points to check for voltage:
    • Power cable = 24vdc
    • Coax from receiver = 13-18vdc
    • Out of power inserter ANT port = 9vdc min
    • Coax from power inserter = 9vdc min
