Winegard Smart Sensors: RV Climate, Security & Leak Monitoring

What are Winegard Smart Sensors?

Winegard Smart Sensors are compact, wireless accessories designed to expand your RV's security and environmental awareness. Operating as part of the RV Halo ecosystem, these sensors constantly monitor your coach's interior conditions and sync with your Winegard hardware to keep you informed.

Whether you are managing climate conditions for pets, tracking security entry points, or protecting your investment from water damage, Smart Sensors provide real-time updates and historical logs directly through the streamlined RV Halo App.

The Smart Sensor Lineup

Each specialized sensor is designed for tool-free installation and long-term battery operation inside your recreational vehicle.

1. Smart Temperature & Humidity Sensor

Designed to monitor the interior climate of your coach, this sensor is vital for tracking environmental shifts during storage or when leaving pets behind.

  • Key Function: Tracks ambient temperature and relative humidity levels.

  • Best Placement: Near pet areas, inside utility bays prone to freezing, or central living spaces.

  • Primary Benefit: Helps prevent frozen pipes in winter and ensures climate safety for electronics or pets during high-heat months.

2. Smart Contact (Door/Window) Sensor

A two-piece magnetic sensor designed to monitor entry points and structural access panels on your rig.

  • Key Function: Detects the opening and closing of doors, windows, or exterior storage hatches.

  • Best Placement: Main entry doors, emergency exit windows, or high-value exterior storage bays.

  • Primary Benefit: Provides an immediate local log when an entry point is breached, offering enhanced peace of mind while away from your perimeter.

3. Smart Motion Sensor

An infrared security sensor engineered to detect physical movement within a specific interior zone.

  • Key Function: Identifies movement patterns within its field of view.

  • Best Placement: Main living areas, driver/passenger cockpits, or central hallways facing entry points.

  • Primary Benefit: Adds an interior layer of security to alert you to unauthorized intruders or unexpected pet activity.

4. Smart Water Sensor

A low-profile probe designed to detect the presence of moisture before it leads to costly structural damage or mold growth.

  • Key Function: Triggers an alert the moment its base contacts standing liquid.

  • Best Placement: Beneath sinks, behind the RV toilet, near the water pump, or under the refrigerator.

  • Primary Benefit: Catches plumbing failures, loose fittings, or condensation leaks early, saving thousands in floor and cabinetry repairs.

Hardware Compatibility & How It Works

Winegard Smart Sensors utilize a low-power wireless Bluetooth protocol to transmit data. To bridge this data to the RV Halo App, they must pair with a compatible, internet-connected Winegard master device.

The sensors can be integrated into your coach using three primary hardware configurations:

Configuration A: Winegard Smart Hub (Dedicated Ecosystem)

The Smart Sensors pair directly with the Winegard Smart Hub. The Hub acts as a local receiver and uses its built-in Verizon cellular connection to transmit sensor data to your phone.

  • Note on Power Failures: If the RV loses shore power and the Smart Hub switches to its internal backup battery, cellular data transmissions are batched on a 12-hour cycle rather than sent instantly to conserve battery life.

Configuration B: Winegard ConnecT 5G (Direct Integration)

Smart Sensors pair directly with the Winegard ConnecT 5G mobile router. This unit features a built-in internal Bluetooth module that enables direct sensor integration right out of the box without any additional hardware accessories.

Configuration C: Base Stations, Gateway, or ConnecT 2.0 (Dongle Required)

Smart Sensors can also be paired with all Winegard Base Station models, as well as select Gateway routers and ConnecT 2.0 units.

  • Bluetooth Dongle Included: To enable communication with these systems, you must use the specialized USB Bluetooth dongle that comes included inside the Smart Sensor retail pack. This dongle plugs directly into the master hardware's USB port to allow it to receive sensor transmissions.

  • Check Compatibility: While all Base Station units are fully compatible using the included dongle, older legacy generations of Gateway or ConnecT 2.0 routers may have hardware limitations. Please review the official Smart Sensor Pack webpage to verify if your specific Gateway or ConnecT model number supports dongle integration.

Things to Consider

  • Pro Membership for Remote Alerts: While local sensor data can be viewed while inside or near the RV, receiving remote push notifications and off-grid tracking while away from the coach requires an active RV Halo Pro Membership.

  • Indoor Use Only: Winegard Smart Sensors are designed strictly for interior environments or weather-sealed storage compartments. They are not rated for prolonged exposure to outdoor elements, rain, or extreme road debris.

  • Battery Maintenance: Sensors are powered by standard, user-replaceable coin-cell or AAA batteries (depending on the specific sensor model) designed to last up to a year under normal operating conditions.
