Your WiFiRanger can boost your internet speed and reliability by combining multiple internet connections through its Load Balancing feature. Load Balancing uses multiple internet sources at the same time, which is useful for activities like streaming multi-threaded videos.
How Load Balancing Works
Think of Load Balancing as having multiple "pipes" between your WiFiRanger and the internet. Data flows through several pipes simultaneously, increasing overall speed.
- Multiple Connections: Your WiFiRanger can use various connections for Load Balancing:
- Dual-band (2.4GHz & 5.8GHz) Wi-Fi networks
- Ethernet connection
- Cellular Data using installed SIM (not availabel on all models)
- Up to three cellular hotspots connected via a powered USB hub
Enabling Load Balancing
- Go to the Setup tab in your WiFiRanger's control panel.
- Check the Multi-WAN box for each internet connection you want to include in Load Balancing.
- In the middle of the page, use the Multi-WAN mode dropdown to select Load Balance.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the Setup tab.
Connecting Your Sources
- Go back to the Main page of the control panel.
- Connect the sources you selected for Load Balancing. The WiFiRanger will usually handle any necessary reconnects automatically.
- Watch the messages at the top of the Main page to monitor the connection process.
Troubleshooting IP Address Conflicts
Sometimes, multiple sources might have the same IP address (e.g., 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), leading to conflicts.
- Go to the Status page of the control panel.
- Look at the internet connections in the upper box.
- Connections with a yellow background are in conflict and not contributing to Load Balancing.
- Remove one of the conflicting connections until you can change its default IP address.
- Refer to your internet device's documentation to learn how to change the default gateway IP address.
Important Notes
- Load Balancing works best when all connections are stable, even if some are slower.
- Severely unstable connections can disrupt Load Balancing and might need to be removed.
