Winegard Playmaker Setup Guide

Winegard Playmaker Setup

The Winegard Playmaker is a portable automatic satellite TV antenna designed for use with DISH programming. Follow these steps to set up your Winegard Playmaker and start enjoying your favorite TV shows.

1. Unpacking and Preparing the Antenna

  • Unbox the Antenna: Carefully remove the Winegard Playmaker from its packaging.
  • Install the Handle: Locate the handle and the two screws in the hardware bag. Align the handle with the holes on the base of the dome and secure it with the screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Do not overtighten.

2. Selecting a Location

  • Choose a Clear Location: Place the antenna in a location with a clear, unobstructed view of the southern sky. Avoid obstructions like trees, buildings, or vehicles.
  • Ensure Stability: Place the antenna on a stable, level surface to prevent it from moving or wobbling, which could cause signal loss.

3. Connecting the Antenna

  • Connect the Coaxial Cable Directly: Use the provided 25-foot coaxial cable to connect the antenna directly to the receiver. Connect one end to the coax port on the antenna and the other end to the “Sat In” port on the receiver. Avoid using splitters or coach wiring, as these can interfere with the signal.
    • For the Playmaker Dual, connect the primary (MAIN) port to the receiver.

4. Receiver Setup

  • Power Up the Receiver: Connect the receiver to a power source and turn it on.
  • Follow On-Screen Instructions: The receiver will guide you through the setup process. This includes pairing the remote control and acquiring satellites.
    • New Receivers: Follow the Installation Wizard to complete the setup.
    • Previously Used Receivers: If the receiver has been used before, it may need to be updated. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update and setup.
  • Initiate Satellite Search: The antenna will automatically begin searching for satellites. This process may take a few minutes and the antenna may make a slight grinding sound, which is normal.
  • Complete Setup: Once the antenna locks onto the satellites, the receiver may update and reboot. Follow any additional on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

5. Maintenance and Tips

  • Regular Updates: Keep the receiver software updated for optimal performance. Leave the receiver in Standby mode to allow automatic updates.
  • Avoid Obstructions: Regularly check the antenna’s location to ensure it remains clear of any new obstructions.

By following these steps, you can set up your Winegard Playmaker and enjoy seamless satellite TV programming. If you encounter any issues, refer to the troubleshooting section or contact Winegard customer support for assistance.
