Frequently Asked Questions - Starlink Support

Frequently Asked Questions - Starlink Support

1. My Starlink device is not activated. What should I do?

Starlink device activation is a self-service function that must be completed by the customer through their Starlink account. Winegard cannot directly activate a Starlink device on your behalf. However, our support team can help guide you through the activation process and answer questions along the way.

We recommend reviewing the Starlink Quick Start Guide linked below and following the activation steps provided. The guide walks through the setup and activation process from start to finish.

If you are unable to complete activation after following the guide, you will need to contact Starlink Support directly. Starlink Support is the only team that can investigate and resolve account-specific activation issues.

For instructions on opening a support ticket, see "How do I contact Starlink Support?" below.

Tips for Submitting a Ticket
  • Be specific about when the issue started.
  • Include troubleshooting steps you've already tried.
  • Share any error messages you have received.
  • Monitor your email, including your spam folder, for responses from Starlink Support
4. My Starlink device says it's already assigned to another account.

Step 1: Verify the Identification Number

Before proceeding, try activating the device using the Starlink serial number rather than the KIT number. In some cases, the KIT number may have been recorded incorrectly, and using the serial number can resolve the activation issue.

Step 2: Gather Purchase Information

You may be asked:

  • Where the device was purchased.
  • Whether it was purchased through a dealer, OEM partner, or another sales channel.
  • Whether you purchased it from the original owner.

If activation using the serial number does not work, you should submit a Starlink Support ticket. Be sure to open an actual support ticket and not use the chat feature.

When submitting the ticket, specifically ask Starlink to:

  • Verify why the device is assigned to another account.
  • Contact the current account owner and request that the device be released.
  • Determine whether the device may have been added to another account by mistake, particularly if the equipment was purchased new.

If the Equipment Was Previously Owned

In many cases, the original owner must:

  1. Log in to their Starlink account.
  2. Remove the device from their account.
  3. Complete the ownership transfer process.

Once the device has been released from the existing account, the new owner can proceed with activation.
