Troubleshooting Winegard Playmaker: No Signal Lock

Troubleshooting Winegard Playmaker: No Signal Lock

The Winegard Playmaker antenna is designed for convenient satellite TV access. If you're experiencing a "No Signal Lock" issue, where the antenna fails to lock onto a satellite signal, follow these troubleshooting steps:

1. Antenna Placement and Line of Sight:

  • The antenna's placement is crucial for obtaining a signal lock. Ensure it has a clear, unobstructed view of the southern sky (between southern Texas and southern California), where DISH and DirecTV satellites are located.
  • Trees, buildings, power lines, or other tall objects can interfere with the antenna's ability to find and lock onto a signal. The general rule is to be twice as far away from an object as it is tall to overcome signal blockage.
  • If unsure about potential obstructions, use the Winegard RV Halo app for iOS and Android devices. The app includes a signal finder utility that utilizes your phone's camera to provide a real-time view of satellite positions, helping you identify blockages and find the best antenna placement.

2. Coax Cable and Connections:

  • For troubleshooting, use the factory-provided 25' coax cable and connect it directly from the antenna to the receiver, bypassing any coach wiring. If you need a longer cable for optimal placement, you can use a maximum of 50' of RG6 coax cable. However, longer cables may require the Winegard PI-GM60 power inserter/cable extender. Higher quality coax cables are recommended for best performance. Solid copper core RG6, or Quad Shield RG6 will provide the best performance with longer coax runs.

3. Power On and Signal Search:

  • Power your DISH receiver on, when it prompts you to select your state, mode (not available on all models), do so and select scan.
  • The antenna will start moving to search for a signal, and the receiver will display a check switch status progress screen. As the antenna locates satellites the progress will up to 2/3, then full. If the search process completes and you receive a message indicating 'Not All Satellites found', the antenna could not see all the DISH satellites. You can continue by selecting 'View TV' and receive programming for the satellites the antenna did find, or reposition the antenna and scan again.
  • Due to the removal of the 129 satellite by DISH you may receive a 'Not All Satellites Found' message, but this doesn't mean the system did not find all the available satellites. After completing the setup you can check for signal on the 119 and 110 satellites from the DISH diagnostics screen. If signal is available on both satellites the system is operating as designed.
  • If the check switch status progress completes with a 'No Satellites Found' message, the antenna did not find any satellites during the search. We recommend trying a different coax cable and searching again.
